H1N1 Flu Information for Our Patients

Optimal Health Physicians follows several basic protocols during the flu season and whenever outbreaks of any communicable disease occur.  Our goals are to:

•     Provide care for any patient who suspects that he/she may be experiencing the symptoms

•     Provide guidance to our patients and their families regarding precautions against contracting the illness

•     Minimize risk of disease transmission among patients, visitors and staff within our offices.

•     Provide access to accurate, reliable information regarding the outbreak as it evolves

Preparation

We strongly recommend that all patients make medical preparations for an outbreak that causes wide-spread disruption of normal daily business.  Breakdowns anywhere along the supply and distribution channels will cause delays and shortages of products and services.  Please review your needs with your physicians or nurse practitioners and ensure that you maintain:

•     Discuss your core medical needs with your physicians to determine the key components of your care

•     Maintain a 30-day supply of all key prescription medications

•     Maintain a 30-day supply of all key nutritional/therapeutic supplements

•     Maintain a 30-day supply of all key over-the-counter medications and supplies

•     Completed lab requisitions for any long-range planned laboratory testing

Office Policies & Procedures

•     Routine, scheduled office visits shall proceed as usual unless conditions mandate closing the office for the protection of patients and staff.

•     Anyone with any form of cough or respiratory condition shall wear a surgical mask provided at the front desk in order to minimize the spread of airborne pathogens.

•     Clinical and administrative staff shall follow a heightened schedule of disinfection and office cleaning multiple times per day.

•     Patients who are experiencing flu-like symptoms must call the office to speak with a provider for guidance.  All consultations will be by telephone.
